Colonel

What the rank does

Base or wing commander, or a branch head in a headquarters. A base commander owns the infrastructure, personnel support and operations of an installation the size of a small town — Borden, Gagetown and Petawawa each run to thousands of people, most of the year, without a shot fired.

Getting past this rank

Strategic leadership and national-level resource management. The published officer rank table places colonels and naval captains in DP4; the National Security Programme is for selected participants.
